Job summary

Kinross Gold Corporation is seeking an Environmental Technician to operate sampling equipment, vehicles, loaders, and forklifts on our Alaska mine site. You will perform routine sampling, inspections, and opacity readings with minimal supervision, following FGMI procedures, site permits, and EPA guidance.

You will collect surface and groundwater samples, record readings, prepare internal and external reports, and assist operations staff while maintaining safety and environmental compliance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; ability to read/write instructions and perform basic calculations.
  • One year experience in environmental profession preferred.
  • Knowledge of site permits, regulatory guidance, and safety procedures.
  • Must maintain opacity readings certification and communicate effectively.

Job description

Responsible for safe and efficient operation of sampling equipment, vehicles, loaders, and forklifts. Abilityto complete routine sampling, inspections, and opacity readings with minimal supervision. Familiarity with
site permits, plans, and pertinent regulations along with EPA guidance. Responsible for completing work in accordance with the FGMI procedures, pertinent regulations, and EPA guidance documents.
Communication, training, and interaction with other departments to assist with environmental complianceis an essential part of the Technicians responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Inspect waste storage areas, maintenance areas, water basins and camp facilities, and monitor wildlife and habitat on the mine site for compliance and report to corresponding department of any deficiencies.
  • Collect surface and groundwater samples.
  • Conduct and record monthly opacity readings.
  • Complete various internal and external reports.
  • Provide staff assistance to operation and maintenance personnel.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance are required.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety,confidentiality and environmental policies.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state.
  • Work without risk of harm to self and others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
  • One year experience in environmental profession preferred.
  • Possess a working knowledge of basic compliance procedures as relates to site permits.
  • Must have or gain an understanding of sampling procedures, safety rules, company policies, emergency procedures, MSHA requirements, environmental regulations and guidance documents.
  • Must maintain required certification for opacity readings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must have solid computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions required.
  • Progression through wage scale is contingent upon satisfactory completion of attached checklists.
