Job summary

The University of Iowa's Engineering department at the Downtown Campus seeks an Environmental Systems Mechanic I or III for a 100% 1st shift position. The role focuses on installing, repairing, and maintaining environmental systems to ensure reliability and energy efficiency.

You will operate chilled water systems, HVAC equipment, and building automation controls, with opportunities to mentor apprentices and contribute to system optimization.

Qualifications

• Eight years of experience in environmental automation, refrigeration or HVAC with two years of optimization experience.
• Must hold refrigeration certificate type 2 within six months?
• Journeyman license required; Fleet Safety compliance may be needed.

Responsibilities

• Operates, inspects, maintains and repairs chillers and related equipment.
• Works with building automation systems to diagnose and modify performance.
• Provides guidance and training to apprentices and staff.
• Performs leak tests and handles refrigerants per EPA regulations.
• Investigates and recommends system modifications to improve efficiency.
• Contributes to energy goals and system optimization.
• Supports engineers and other personnel as required.
