Job summary

Atlas is seeking an Environmental Staff Scientist to join our Charlotte, NC team. You will conduct Phase I ESAs in the field and support Phase II work across the Charlotte area, collaborating with project managers and a supportive team to grow your skills.

You will have a BS in a related field and 2–5 years of site assessment experience, with OSHA HAZWOPER training or willingness to obtain it. Travel up to 30% within NC/SC is expected.

Qualifications

• BS in Geology, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
• 2–5 years of site assessment and Phase I ESA report experience.
• OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training or willingness to complete.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfort with physically active fieldwork outdoors.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.
• Willing to travel up to 30% within NC/SC, based in Charlotte.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
• Support Phase II ESAs — collect soil, groundwater, methane, soil-vapor samples; log borings; install monitoring wells; limited asbestos sampling.
• Perform and document field investigations, including site reconnaissance and interviews, relaying findings to the project manager in real time.
• Manage and interpret sampling data, create clear summary tables, result interpretations, and maps.
• Prepare organized technical reports using online platforms (Quire a plus).
• Assist clients with environmental, health, safety needs and regulatory compliance while following safety practices.
