Job summary

Atlas seeks an Environmental Staff Scientist to join the Charlotte, NC team. You’ll be in the field and behind the data on environmental due diligence projects that help clients understand and protect the land they build on.

You’ll conduct Phase I and support Phase II ESAs across the Charlotte area, while also contributing to Atlas National Programs work throughout the NC/SC region. It’s hands‑on, meaningful work—the kind that keeps communities safe and helps development happen responsibly.

Qualifications

• BS in Geology, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
• 2–5 years of site assessment experience; Phase I ESA reporting experience a plus.
• OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training or ability to obtain it.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to relay field findings clearly.
• Comfort with physically active fieldwork outdoors in varying weather.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
• Support Phase II ESAs: collect soil, groundwater, methane, soil-vapor samples; log borings; install wells; limited asbestos sampling.
• Perform field investigations and relay findings to project manager in real time.
• Manage and interpret sampling data; build summary tables and maps.
• Prepare technical reports using online platforms (Quire a plus).
• Help clients meet environmental, health, and safety regulatory needs while maintaining safety practices.
