Job summary

Sarasota County Government seeks an Environmental Specialist to implement environmental sections of the UDC and related plans, focusing on technical review and compliance of development projects. You will work to protect, enhance, and restore local natural resources while engaging with homeowners’ associations and community groups.

Responsibilities include field inspections, habitat delineation, and providing technical guidance on environmental stipulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological or physical sciences, Environmental Engineering or related field AND two years of professional experience.
  • Master’s degree may substitute for one year of professional experience.
  • Progressively responsible professional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college degree.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate development plans for consistency with the Environment Chapter of the Comprehensive Plan and County regulations.
  • Perform technical field inspections, document findings, and analyze results.
  • Delineate native habitat types and coordinate with Environmental Permitting staff.
  • Provide technical review support for land use and building permits affecting natural resources.
  • Draft correspondence, permits, notices, and reports based on data analysis.
  • Present to the County Commission and other organizations as needed.
  • Assist in public outreach/education to HOA groups and communities.
