Job summary

Sarasota County Government is seeking an Environmental Permitting Manager to lead the Environmental Permitting team within the Planning and Development Services division. The role focuses on implementing the Comprehensive Plan and County Code while balancing environmental protection with community growth.

Responsibilities include overseeing permitting, compliance, policy development, budget management, and staff leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 4+ years of related experience.
• OR Associate's degree with 6+ years of related experience.
• OR 8+ years of related experience may substitute for the degree.
• 2+ years of supervisory experience.
• Valid Florida driver's license by date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Lead implementation of environmental policies within the Comprehensive Plan and County Code.
• Oversee environmental permitting and reviews (UDC, building, tree protection, coastal setback).
• Direct field inspections related to native habitats and protected species.
• Oversee division budget, revenues, expenditures, and fee recommendations.
• Provide leadership, set priorities, and delegate work to Environmental Permitting staff.
• Lead and support special projects across the organization.
