The DNREC - Compliance and Permitting Section of Waste and Hazardous Substances regulates solid waste through inspection of waste generators and permitting of waste management facilities. The section also develops programs for sustainable waste management practices such as waste reduction, re-use, and recycling. This position provides technical support to solid and hazardous waste regulatory programs within the Compliance and Permitting Section. The incumbent oversees regulatory compliance at the state’s waste generator facilities, conducts inspections, documents findings, and prepares enforcement actions. Additional responsibilities include assisting with waste program commitments, preparing documentation, addressing regulatory questions, and handling permitting tasks.
Employees may be eligible for promotion to the next level upon satisfactory completion of department standards and requirements.
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Planning, Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Science, Architectural History/Historical Preservation, Archaeology/Anthropology, or a related field. They must also have:
