Environmental Specialist III - Compliance and Permitting

This position supports the DNREC - Compliance and Permitting Section of Waste and Hazardous Substances, which regulates solid waste through inspections and permits, and develops programs for sustainable waste management.

Summary

This role provides technical support to regulatory programs, oversees compliance at waste generator facilities, conducts inspections, documents findings, and assists with permitting and enforcement actions.

Essential Functions
  • Perform environmental specialist work in areas such as waste management, air quality, wetlands, etc.
  • Provide guidance to agencies and stakeholders, ensuring compliance with environmental laws.
  • Conduct research, inspections, and data analysis for regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare technical reports, permits, and documentation.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies for permits and approvals.
  • Engage with community and stakeholders for outreach and education.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Science or related field.
  • At least two years’ experience in environmental work, including compliance, data analysis, and report writing.
  • One year of environmental project management experience.
