Job summary

State of North Carolina, Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Waste Management, seeks an Environmental Specialist II (NS) for the Winston-Salem Regional Office to enforce solid waste statutes and protect public health.

You will inspect facilities in Davidson, Forsyth, Stokes, Rockingham, and Yadkin counties, provide technical assistance, conduct inspections, and pursue enforcement as needed; hybrid telework option available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences.
• Two years of related experience or an equivalent education/experience mix.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections at solid waste facilities to ensure compliance with rules and permit conditions.
• Provide technical assistance to local governments, solid waste management facilities, industry, and the public on proper waste management.
• Conduct recycling and resource recovery facility inspections for the Tax Certification Program.
• Investigate unpermitted illegal disposal sites and initiate enforcement actions.
• Support statewide efforts for disaster preparedness and recovery related to solid waste management.
