Job summary

City of Dallas seeks an Environmental Specialist II for Sanitation Services (Civil Service) to perform environmental inspections and investigations for regulatory compliance. The role involves field work, spill response, and data collection across municipal water, storm, and sewer programs.

Under minimum supervision, you’ll prepare comprehensive reports, support training, and assist the Environmental Compliance Committee in coordinating permit requirements and corrective actions.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of hands-on experience in performing environmental inspections, handling hazardous materials, or related sampling for compliance.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• 40-hour HAZWOPER certification within probationary period.
• For Stormwater Neighborhood division, CESCP and Boater Certificate within probationary period.
• For Water Quality division, Class D Water license from TCEQ and Boater Certificate within probationary period.
• Education path includes High School or GED with science coursework.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and investigate environmental compliance sites and prepare findings.
• Respond to spills; document investigations and outcomes.
• Coordinate with Environmental Compliance Committee and other departments for investigations and reports.
• Prepare and file detailed inspection reports and document non-compliance.
• Provide training and ongoing education to staff on inspection activities.
• Support senior specialists in investigations and emergency responses.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
