Job summary

City of Dallas is seeking an Environmental Specialist I to perform routine environmental inspections and investigations. You will collect samples, respond to spills, and ensure compliance with environmental laws and standards, while documenting findings and maintaining records.

The role requires knowledge of CWA/RCRA, training in inspection procedures, and the ability to communicate effectively. Eligibility includes a high school diploma or GED, and a valid driver’s license; a 40-hour HAZWOPER

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required; associate degree meets education/experience requirements.
Minimum 1 year of environmental inspections experience.
Equivalency: associate degree or higher in engineering, environmental or physical sciences.

Responsibilities

Performs routine environmental evaluations and inspections and investigates complaints, preparing compliance reports for environmental agencies.
Monitors incidents such as spills; assists with investigation to determine preventability and prepares related documents.
Inspects city facilities for environmental compliance; reviews waste storage areas, water facilities, and stormwater management; escalates issues as needed.
Applies environmental policies and participates in training to ensure inspections are accurate and efficient.
Participates in 24-hour emergency response and documents investigations.
Collects environmental samples, follows chain of custody, records field results, and prepares samples for lab analysis.
Performs other work as needed.
