Job summary

The City of Fort Worth is seeking an Environmental Specialist to join the Water Quality Team within the Environmental Quality Division. This role supports compliance with municipal, state, and federal environmental regulations to protect public health and natural resources.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or environmental science; no experience required. A valid Class C driver’s license is required.

• Assist in education and training efforts and provide administrative support to supervisors.
• Participate in State and Municipal Administrative Hearings and Court proceedings.
• Ensure quality assurance on documentation and reports.
• Prepare scientific and procedural presentations.
• Communicate violations or noncompliance to customers.

Pay Range: $26.57 - $29.89/hr. | $55,268 - $62,177 annual compensation

The City of Fort Worth’s Environmental Services Department is seeking a dedicated and motivated Environmental Specialist to join the Water Quality Team within the Environmental Quality Division. This position supports the City’s commitment to protecting public health and the environment by ensuring compliance with municipal, state, and federal environmental regulations. The Environmental Quality Division oversees critical programs designed to maintain water quality standards, safeguard natural resources, and ensure the City meets regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in biology, chemistry, environmental science, or a related field
• No experience required
• Possession of a valid Class “C” driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

• 40-hour HAZWOPER Emergency Response Training
• Strong understanding of state and federal environmental regulations and quality monitoring standards
• Excellent communication, project planning, and time management skills
• Competence in the use of current office computer applications, including word processing, email, spreadsheets and presentation software
• Understanding of the fundamentals of Environmental Pollutant Abatement

The Environmental Specialist Job Responsibilities Include

• Perform stormwater environmental compliance inspections and investigations, including collecting data and samples related to various environmental issues
• Perform MS4 compliance and enforcement of related activities such as illicit discharge investigations (IDDE), spill response, TPDES industrial and construction stormwater inspections, dry weather field screens, wet weather monitoring, rapid bio assessments, and internal audit assessments
• Writing technical investigation reports and conducting complex calculations and documentation of evidence to complete reports
• Aiding in education and training efforts
• Giving administrative support to supervisory-level colleagues
• Participating in State and Municipal Administrative Hearings and Court proceedings
• Completing quality assurance on documentation and reports
• Preparing scientific and procedural presentations
• Communicate violations, deficiencies or noncompliance to customers
