Job summary

The City of Fort Worth's Transportation & Public Works, Stormwater Management Division, seeks a Sr. Flood Warning Specialist to lead the flood warning program, maintain instrumented sensors, and ensure high system reliability.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in meteorology or related field and 3 years’ experience in environmental programs; preferred are real-time data system skills (VueWorks, Contrail/Elements 360) and field instrumentation expertise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in meteorology, hydrology, electronics, environmental science or related field.
• Three years of responsible experience in state or federally regulated environmental programs or related field.
• Experience outdoors installing, maintaining and troubleshooting real-time monitoring equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance outdoors on flood warning instrumentation and related equipment.
• Monitor flood warning system conditions before, during and after storm events and perform repairs as needed.
• Evaluate sensor performance and determine corrective actions, coordinating with first responders.
• Track assets and procure equipment for maintenance and installation.
• Log maintenance records in VueWorks and inspect contractor work.
• Test and install specialized sensors for hydrologic data collection and transmission.

Pay Range: $36.25 - $40.98/hr.

A Sr. Flood Warning Specialist job is available with the City of Fort Worth, Transportation & Public Works, Stormwater Management (SWM) Division. The SWM Division is responsible for protecting the residents of Fort Worth from the harmful effects of runoff during severe storms. The Flood Warning program in SWM maintains, operates, and installs instrumented water level and weather monitoring master stations along with the remote roadside flashers that are triggered by the master stations. The Sr. Flood Warning Specialist will be responsible for all aspects of the City’s flood warning program while ensuring very high levels of system reliability. Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in meteorology, hydrology, electronics, environmental science or related field
• Three (3) years of responsible experience in state or federally regulated environmental programs or related field

Preferred Qualifications

• A well-established track record of working outdoors installing, maintaining and troubleshooting real-time meteorologic and hydrologic monitoring equipment
• Demonstrated ability on their own to diagnose and resolve problems with instrumentation and telemetry from remote sites
• Ability to apply mathematical and statistical techniques involved in interpreting measurements from a real-time flood warning or similar system
• Experience manipulating large volumes of data in spreadsheets and database platforms
• Experience programming with rules in Contrail/Elements 360 or similar real-time data acquisition server software
• Ability to interpret and assemble low voltage DC electronic circuits from component parts

The Sr. Flood Warning Specialist Job Responsibilities Include

• Performing preventative maintenance working outdoors up to the entire workdays on flood warning instrumentation consisting of dataloggers, telemetry, antennas, water level sensors, batteries powered by solar panels, roadside flashers, pole assemblies, and cabinet box housing
• Prior to, during and following storm events, monitoring the conditions of the flood warning system in server software and responding with immediate repairs as necessary
• On their own: evaluating performance of sensors and determining best course of corrective action in case of failure to any part of the flood warning system, and coordinating with first responders
• Tracking assets and procuring equipment for maintenance and installation
• Logging maintenance records in VueWorks
• Inspecting installations and repairs performed by contractors
• Testing and installing specialized sensors and instrumentation for collection and transmission of hydrologic parameters
