The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas. Responsibilities include following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines, and tasks such as emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using appropriate tools and equipment. Knowledge of healthcare housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques is essential to provide a clean and sterile environment for patients/residents and staff.
Responsibilities may include cleaning patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other areas to meet health standards. Proper use of protective equipment, maintaining clean and organized storage and equipment, and using technology such as pagers responsibly are also required. Assisting in laundry areas and using technology applications may be part of the role depending on location and program availability.
This role involves physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials. The ability to lift/move up to 40-50 lbs and push/pull on flat surfaces or ramps is required. The position requires standing for most of the shift and may expose the individual to noise levels from equipment.
Work hours vary based on patient/resident needs and may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
