Job summary

Qualifications

  • Relocate beds and equipment, clean stretchers and refrigerators, maintain general areas and respond to safety issues.

Summary

The Environmental Services Technician II performs preventative cleaning procedures necessary to maintain the facility in an orderly, sanitary and attractive condition. Responsible for the safe pick up and transportation of all infectious, solid and recyclable waste from holding areas to the incinerator, compactor or storage areas. Supports the mission and vision of Akron Children's Hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the daily cleaning of floors in corridors and other assigned areas. Hard surface floor care: apply and/or remove floor finish on hard surfaces, use a mechanical side‑by‑side floor scrubber. Able to run a variety of scrubbers and other floor care equipment. Demonstrates knowledge of department policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and efficient use of cleaning techniques, solutions, equipment and tools. Uses the correct chemicals, supplies and tools needed for the task performed.
  • Waste removal: transports hazardous, solid and recyclable waste in a safe manner from the point of origin to approved holding areas.
  • Responsible for extraction of carpets and project cleaning of walls, lights, windows, etc.
  • Maintains high standards: works steadily at an efficient pace and achieves high QA scores.
  • Patient and guest relations: adheres to all hospital and department standards for patient and guest relations, promotes a positive image of Akron Children's Hospital.
  • Perform terminal and cycle cleaning of walls, lights and ceilings—including the use of UV light technology—following a ten‑step cleaning process.
  • Regular cleaning duties: relocate beds, boxes and other equipment; clean stretchers, exterior of refrigerators and microwaves; clean shelves, cupboards and other general equipment; maintain equipment and work areas; respond to emergency requests; observe and report potential safety issues and facility improvement requests to management or the engineering department.
  • Maintain equipment, tools and storage areas in a clean, orderly and good operating condition. Respect hospital and company property.
  • Fill in to support other support services areas as needed to ensure operational efficiency.
Technical Expertise
  • Experience in hard surface floor care and carpet cleaning is required.
  • Experience demonstrating mechanical aptitude to detect equipment malfunctions for safety to self and others is required.
  • Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.
  • Experience in healthcare is preferred.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Licensure: None.
  • Certification: None.
  • Years of relevant experience: 2 years preferred.
  • Years of supervisory experience: None.
