Job summary

Akron Children’s Hospital is seeking an Environmental Services Technician II to maintain a sanitary and orderly facility. The role includes cleaning floors, applying floor finishes, and operating cleaning equipment while ensuring waste is transported safely to approved areas.

You will perform carpet extractions, wall and surface cleaning, and uphold high QA standards. The position requires teamwork, adherence to safety protocols, and may involve supporting other service areas as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Healthcare environment experience is a plus.
  • Ability to follow safety and infection-control procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Daily cleaning of floors in corridors and assigned areas using appropriate floor care techniques and equipment.
  • Apply proper cleaning solutions, and use mechanical floor scrubber and other tools.
  • Transport hazardous, solid, and recyclable waste safely to approved holding areas.
  • Perform carpet extraction and project cleaning of walls, lights, windows, and surfaces.
  • Maintain high QA scores by working efficiently and accurately.
  • Adhere to hospital and department standards for patient and guest relations.
  • Perform terminal and cycle cleaning using UV light technology following the 10-step process.
  • Relocate beds and equipment, clean stretchers, refrigerators, microwaves, shelves, and general equipment; respond to emergencies and report safety issues.
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and storage areas in clean, orderly, and operable condition.
  • Fill in to support other Support Services areas to ensure operational efficiency.

Job description

The Environmental Services Technician II performs preventative cleaning procedures necessary to maintain the facility in an orderly, sanitary, and attractive condition. Responsible for the safe pick up and transportation of all infectious, solid, and recyclable waste from holding areas to the incinerator, compactor, or storage areas. Supports the mission and vision of Akron Children's Hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the daily cleaning of floors in corridors and other assigned areas. Hard surface floor care: apply and/or remove floor finish on hard surfaces, use a mechanical side‑by‑side floor scrubber, and operate various floor care equipment. Demonstrates knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Use correct cleaning techniques, solutions, equipment, and tools. Apply appropriate chemicals and supplies for each task.
  • Transport hazardous, solid, and recyclable waste safely from the point of origin to approved holding areas.
  • Extract carpets and perform project cleaning of walls, lights, windows, and other surfaces.
  • Maintain high standards: work steadily at an efficient pace, achieve high QA scores.
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental standards for patient and guest relations, promoting a positive image of Akron Children's Hospital.
  • Perform terminal and cycle cleaning of walls, lights, and ceilings, including the use of UV light technology following the 10‑step cleaning process.
  • Handle regular cleaning duties such as relocating beds and equipment, cleaning stretchers, refrigerators, microwaves, shelves, cupboards, and general equipment; respond to emergency requests and report potential safety issues or facility improvement needs to management or Engineering.
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and storage areas in clean, orderly, and operable condition; respect hospital and company property.
  • Fill in to support other Support Services areas as needed to ensure operational efficiency.
Technical Expertise
  • Experience with hard surface floor care and carpet cleaning is required.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude to detect equipment malfunctions for safety to self and others is required.
  • Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.
  • Experience in healthcare is preferred.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Years of relevant experience: 2 years preferred.
