Job summary

Akron Children's is seeking an Environmental Services Technician I for overnight hours (Nights, 11:00 pm–7:30 am), part-time 0.6 FTE, onsite. The role cleans patient rooms and ancillary areas, restocks paper products, and performs discharge room cleaning following hospital procedures.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 2 years of relevant environmental services experience preferred.
  • No licensure or certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Daily cleaning of patient rooms and discharge areas using approved procedures.
  • Clean and stock support service areas as assigned.
  • Use cleaning solutions, equipment, and tools safely and effectively.
  • Perform preventative cleaning per hospital procedures and discharge cleaning.
  • Conduct terminal cleaning of walls, lights, and ceilings, including UV light use.
  • Uphold infection control practices to protect patients, staff and visitors.
  • Maintain high QA scores and a positive image of the hospital.
  • Fill in to support other services to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions and complete other duties as assigned.

Summary

The Environmental Services Technician I is responsible for the daily cleaning of patient rooms and associated ancillary areas, supplying rooms with paper products, and discharge room cleaning utilizing accepted practices and procedures. Additionally, they contribute to patient and guest relations by promoting a positive image of the hospital and adhering to established standards.

Part‑Time

Shift: Nights, 11:00 pm – 7:30 am; variable.

Responsibilities
  • Is responsible for the daily cleaning of patient rooms, supplying rooms with paper products, and discharge room cleaning utilizing accepted practices and procedures.
  • Responsible for daily cleaning of support service areas as assigned.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and efficient use of cleaning techniques, solutions, equipment, and tools. Uses appropriate chemicals, supplies, and tools for each task.
  • Provides preventative cleaning service for occupied patient areas according to the Ten Step Interactive Cleaning and High‑Profile Cleaning Procedures. Performs discharge cleaning of patient areas according to the Interactive Discharge Procedure.
  • Performs terminal cleaning of walls, lights, and ceilings, including the use of UV light technology.
  • Adheres to all hospital and department standards for patient and guest relations. Promotes a positive image of Akron Children's Hospital.
  • Maintains high standards, works at a steady pace, and achieves high QA scores.
  • Performs discharge cleaning of patient areas according to discharge procedures.
  • Fill in to support other Support Services areas as needed to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Follows written and verbal instructions accurately and completes other duties as assigned.
Technical Expertise
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining cleaning equipment and tools commonly used in environmental services.
  • Knowledge of appropriate cleaning solutions, chemicals, and supplies, including their correct usage and safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with cleaning techniques for various surfaces and areas, ensuring effective removal of dirt, stains, and pathogens.
  • Ability to perform specialized cleaning tasks, such as terminal cleaning, including cleaning walls, lights, and ceilings, and utilizing UV light technology.
  • Understanding of infection control practices and procedures to maintain a safe and hygienic environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to quality assurance standards to achieve high‑quality cleaning outcomes.
  • Capacity to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and efficiently.
  • Annual respiratory mask fitting and recertification training mandatory.

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
