Position Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the clean and safe environment of Immanuel Living, by using proper cleaning techniques; ensure that Immanuel Living’s residents’ and business laundry needs are met; and ensure that supplies are ordered and distributed throughout the facilities.
Policies and Procedures
- Maintain confidentiality of residents and potential residents, resident family members, coworkers, and Immanuel Living.
- Understand and support the philosophy, policies, and standards of Immanuel Living and the departments of Environmental Services.
- Maintain quality of resident care, including compliance with Facility and Environmental Services Department policies and procedures, and State and Federal guidelines.
- Follow facility and department policies and procedures.
Position Duties
- Oversee the efficient and quality operations of the Laundry and Housekeeping departments.
- Ensure that compliance with OSHA standards (except for Blood-borne Pathogens Standard) is maintained.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Facility, State, and Federal safety requirements (e.g., Life Safety Code for long-term care surveys and corporate safety policies and procedures).
- Perform quality assurance functions, including compliance rounds, to evaluate compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations and Facility policies and procedures.
- Maintain current knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures of Facilities.
- Develop and oversee Laundry and Housekeeping budgets.
- Monitor expenses on an ongoing basis and stay within budget, whenever possible. If emergencies arise necessitating unbudgeted expenses, inform Director of Facilities & Operations of the emergency and projected costs of remedying the emergency.
- Possess a working knowledge of and willingness to contact outside contractors to perform required work when appropriate, and follow-up to make certain requested work was completed to satisfaction.
- Manages all environmental impacts inside & outside facility.
- Manages all grease traps.
- Maintains compliance with the City of Kalispell.
- Helps manage Room flips campus wide with maintenance manager.
- Manages & oversees all flooring projects.
- Manages & organizes all room moves.
- Works with outside vendors.
- Manager Department Supply orders.
- Interfaces with Directors of all departments.
Supervisory Duties
- Assist with Housekeeping and Laundry duties as necessary.
- Orient, train, and evaluate Housekeeping and Laundry staff performance by observing staff on all shifts, performing spot checks on work done for accuracy and completeness, and by auditing staff records.
- Verify that Laundry and Housekeeping staff receive the orientation, training, and evaluation as required.
- Arrange for department-specific and individual employee training when needed to teach staff how to perform laundry and housekeeping skills, maintain new equipment, perform new tasks, etc.
- Conduct employment performance evaluations for Housekeeping and Laundry staff.
- Ensure that Laundry and Housekeeping staff are complying with all Corporate and OSHA compliance programs (e.g., Blood-borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan, Infection Control Plan).
- Develop staffing schedule that assures sufficient numbers of personnel to meet resident and Facility needs, review department schedules.
Documentation and Communication
- Verify compliance of required documentation and record-keeping of Laundry and Housekeeping activities.
- Communicate with supervisor and participate in training and/or meetings that help facilitate departmental communication process.
- Communicate with others in a considerate manner.
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally with residents in long-term care setting, families, staff members, Administration, representatives of the community and government agencies.
Qualifications
- Drivers License Class D (regular license) and clean driving record.
Essential Physical, mental, and Emotional Requirements
- The employee must be at least 18 years of age, as position operates potentially hazardous equipment.
- The employee must be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work under time and/or deadline pressures and frequent interruptions.
- Specific vision abilities required of this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
When performing the duties as Housekeeper
- The employee must be able to move intermittently throughout the shift.
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, bend, squat, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear.
- The employee must frequently lift up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift up to 20 pounds, occasionally lift up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lift more than 40 pounds.
- The employee must rarely reach above shoulder height, frequently from chest to shoulder height, occasionally from waist to shoulder, and occasionally from below waist level.
- The employee must occasionally carry up to 12 pounds or more.
- The employee must frequently push / pull up to 20 pounds, rarely push up to 40 pounds, and rarely push up to 85 pounds.
- The employee must rarely grip up to 40 pounds.
When performing the duties as Laundry Aide
- The employee must be able to move intermittently throughout the shift.
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, bend, squat, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear.
- The employee must frequently lift up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift up to 20 pounds, occasionally lift up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lift more than 40 pounds.
- The employee must frequently reach above shoulder height, frequently from chest to shoulder height, continually from waist to shoulder, and frequently from below waist level.
- The employee must occasionally carry up to 12 pounds or more and occasionally carry more than 12 pounds.
- The employee must occasionally push / pull up to 20 pounds and rarely push up to 40 pounds.
- The employee must occasionally grip up to 40 pounds.
When performing the duties as Shipping & Receiving Clerk
- The employee must be able to move intermittently throughout the shift.
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, bend, squat, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear.
- The employee must continually lift up to 10 pounds, frequently lift up to 20 pounds, occasionally lift up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lift more than 40 pounds.
- The employee must rarely reach above shoulder height, occasionally from chest to shoulder height, frequently from waist to chest, and frequently from below waist level.
- The employee must continually push / pull up to 10 pounds, frequently push / pull up to 20 pounds, occasionally push / pull up to 30 pounds, occasionally push up to 60 pounds, and rarely push up to 100 pounds.
- The employee must continually grip up to 40 pounds.
Education and Experience
- Graduation from high school or GED preferred.
- At least 6 months of experience in Laundry and Housekeeping preferred.
- At least 5 years of supervisory experience preferred.
