Responsibilities

• Handle waste and chemicals safely, following procedures.
• Assist with room changes, admissions, discharges, and transfers.
• Restock supplies and report maintenance or safety concerns.
• Follow PPE usage and safety procedures; participate in training and safety education.
• Work with nursing, maintenance, dining, and other departments to support operations.

Position Summary

The Environmental Services (EVS) Worker is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment throughout the Cantata campus. This position performs routine and assigned cleaning, sanitation, housekeeping, and environmental services in resident rooms/apartments, common areas, clinical areas, offices, restrooms, and other campus spaces. The EVS Worker plays an important role in resident safety, infection prevention, and the overall resident, family, visitor, and employee experience. Employees are expected to provide services with professionalism, respect, attention to detail, and sensitivity to the needs and privacy of older adults.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of assigned resident rooms/apartments, bathrooms, common areas, hallways, offices, clinical spaces, dining areas, and other assigned areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, disinfect, empty trash, clean restrooms, and perform other routine housekeeping duties according to established schedules and procedures.
• Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces and other areas in accordance with infection prevention and environmental cleaning standards.
• Follow appropriate procedures for handling waste, soiled materials, chemicals, cleaning supplies, and potentially infectious materials.
• Perform room cleaning and preparation associated with resident admissions, discharges, transfers, and room changes as assigned.
• Maintain housekeeping carts, equipment, supplies, and assigned storage areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
• Restock housekeeping and sanitation supplies as needed and notify management when supplies or equipment require replacement, repair, or replenishment.
• Follow established procedures for the safe use, labeling, storage, and handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow infection prevention, isolation, hand hygiene, and other applicable safety procedures.
• Identify and promptly report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damaged equipment, spills, pest concerns, or other environmental issues to the appropriate department or supervisor.
• Respond promptly to spills, cleaning requests, and other environmental needs throughout the campus.
• Assist with floor care, deep cleaning, project cleaning, and seasonal cleaning as assigned.
• Assist with linen, laundry, or related environmental services functions when assigned.
• Maintain resident privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and HIPAA compliance while working in resident and clinical areas.
• Interact with residents, families, visitors, and coworkers in a courteous, respectful, and professional manner.
• Respect resident belongings and immediately report lost, damaged, or misplaced property according to Cantata procedures.
• Follow Cantata's policies, Standards of Behavior, attendance expectations, safety requirements, and departmental procedures.
• Attend required meetings, in-services, training programs, and safety/infection prevention education.
• Work cooperatively with nursing, maintenance, dining, life enrichment, and other departments to support campus operations and resident needs.
• Assist in emergency situations and follow applicable emergency preparedness and response procedures.
• Maintain assigned work areas and complete scheduled responsibilities within established timeframes and quality standards.
• Perform other duties, assignments, or special projects as directed by Environmental Services or Cantata management.

Qualificaitons & Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous housekeeping, environmental services, healthcare, hospitality, or senior living experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, cleaning schedules, safety procedures, and product instructions.
• Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
• Strong attention to cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and detail.
• Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with residents, families, visitors, coworkers, and management.
• Must demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and consistent attendance.
• Must maintain resident confidentiality and comply with applicable privacy requirements.
• Must complete all required employment screenings, orientation, training, and health requirements applicable to the position.
• Must be able to work assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays, based on department and campus needs.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the physical functions necessary for environmental services work, with or without reasonable accommodation. Duties may include:

• Standing and walking for extended periods.
• Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, pushing, pulling, and repetitive movement.
• Moving housekeeping carts, equipment, supplies, trash, and other materials.
• Lifting and carrying items associated with routine EVS responsibilities.
• Working with approved cleaning products and disinfectants.
• Wearing required personal protective equipment.
• Working in resident care areas and other environments where exposure to infectious materials or bodily fluids may occur.
