POSITION SUMMARY:

Maintains district facilities in a clean, sanitary, orderly, and attractive condition, to provide a suitable environment for patient care and staff work. Performs a variety of housekeeping duties that may include dusting, washing, and disinfecting furniture, fixtures, and equipment, sweeping, mopping, gathering and disposing of refuse, arranging furniture, and similar tasks. Performs cleaning services at, KCCMH, PHC, PWC, Seibert Clinic and SMC (i.e. floors, walls, carpets, tile, and furniture).

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Selects cleaning materials and supplies and prepares solutions according to policy & procedure.
  • Loads service cart and transports to area.
  • Polishes and cleans fixtures in utility rooms and restrooms.
  • Cleans assigned areas by washing furniture, tile, fixtures and equipment with district approved germicidal cleaning solutions.
  • Demonstrates the proper care and use of environmental equipment.
  • Sweeps and mops floor areas, vacuums carpets; spot cleans floors and carpets, using appropriate methods and arranges furniture and equipment back in an orderly fashion.
  • Cleans assigned areas per policy and procedure and assigned area checklist.
  • Moves and cleans behind doors, furniture and other heavy objects.
  • Removal of waste and soiled linens from work area and disposes in specific bags or containers.
  • Collects waste from all areas of facility, sanitizes trashcans and keeps waste disposal area sanitized.
  • Demonstrates correct cleaning procedures in accordance with district policy.
  • Operates various types of cleaning equipment, both mechanical and electrical (i.e., buffers, wringers, scrubbers, vacuums).
  • Performs terminal cleaning procedures of patient rooms and prepares room for new occupant.
  • Follows isolation procedures for patient isolation rooms.
  • Demonstrates behaviors that promote positive customer relations with staff, patients and visitors.
  • Volume of work regularly produced is appropriate with acceptable speed and consistency in quality of work.
  • Willing to assume additional workload as needed to make certain responsibilities of the Environmental Services Department is fulfilled.
  • Distributes soap, paper and other environmental supplies as needed.
  • Cleans equipment in accordance to manufactures recommendations and notifies EVS Manager of equipment needing repair and safety hazards.
  • Demonstrates correct dilution/mixing/use of cleaning agents.
  • Returns unused supplies to proper place, cleans carts and equipment and ensures all items are placed in an orderly manner.
  • Requests cleaning supplies and equipment, as needed to the EVS Manager.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Climbs ladder to replace or hang cubicle drapes, clean window coverings and to reach areas for other cleaning purposes.
  • Collects and dispose hazardous waste in manner established by the Infection Control Committee.
  • Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.
  • Attends in-services as scheduled and or as requested.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements; district policy, procedures and standards.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; with minimal absenteeism, and completes work within designated time.
  • Completes and maintains assigned duties.
  • Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with patients, clients and staff.
  • Ensures confidentiality of patient’s records.
  • Attends and participates in at least 8 staff meetings per year.
  • Communicates the mission and quality statements of the district.
  • Actively participates in the Department’s QA, QI and PI activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications: POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or GED preferred, one (1) years’ experience in environmental services preferred, but willing to train. Must have knowledge of proper housekeeping technique and procedures. Must know appropriate environmental cleaning equipment and supplies used to complete assigned duties. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.

  • Works in precarious or high locations (ladders, scaffolding, etc.).
  • Prolonged, extensive, and/or considerable standing/walking.
  • Pushes/pulls or moves/lifts heaving equipment/supplies (lifts/carry up to and/not limited to 50#).
  • At risk for blood borne pathogens.
  • May be exposed to/occasionally exposed to patient elements.
