Job description

Reporting to the Supervisor, Environmental Services, this position is responsible for performing various cleaning tasks, moving equipment and furniture, and maintaining floor care to provide patients, visitors, and health sciences staff with a safe and clean environment by upholding standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and protection from hazards and infections.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrates the ability to perform the job's essential functions as outlined in the position description.
  2. Completes all required training and continuing education, including department-specific requirements.
  3. Complies with established personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, asbestos, and other hazardous substances.
  4. Transports custodial supplies and equipment to and from storage and work areas.
  5. Cleans toilets, basins, showers, bathtubs, and vacant apartments; scrubs walls; dusts; cleans and vacuums furniture, fixtures, doors, and related furnishings using appropriate cleaning supplies.
  6. Cleans common areas, offices, public restrooms, Exercise, Teen, Arts and Crafts Rooms, dining areas, and any rooms that provide activities for patients, parents, and staff.
  7. Operates and maintains industrial vacuums and equipment for carpet and upholstery shampooing.
  8. Removes waste bags and containers.
  9. Cleans restrooms, locker rooms, lounges, storage rooms, toy rooms, administrative offices, windows, all storage rooms and common spaces within the plaza, equipment rooms, and closets.
  10. Cleaning ledges, fixtures, walls, vents, and lights prepares rooms for prompt reuse.
  11. Performs terminal cleaning of all apartments between vacancies, including, but not limited to, cleaning tables, floors, lights, vents, ceilings, walls, furniture, beds, closets, kitchen areas, stoves, refrigerators, microwaves, dishes, and pots/pans.
  12. Meets deadlines for special projects and daily responsibilities and communicates accomplishments, including unfinished tasks, to the supervisor.
  13. Manages waste removal and linen collection for designated work areas.
  14. Collects and transports linen to the laundry service area for washing and laundering; washes and folds for future use.
  15. Collects, transports, cleans, and stocks all houseware items.
  16. Collects and transports all staging items to the staging area for future use.
  17. Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  18. Performs other related duties as assigned to support the goals of the department and institution.
Minimum Education and/or Training:

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Minimum Experience:

Previous Environmental Services experience in a hospital or hotel environment preferred.
Experience operating housekeeping-related equipment is also preferred.

  6. On occasion, the employee may be exposed to infectious diseases.
  7. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  8. Compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety and health regulations is essential to this job.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $19.00 - $27.50 per hour for the role of Environmental Services Attendant.
