Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a dedicated environmental services worker to maintain a safe, clean environment across patient care areas in Bedford, Indiana.

The role requires strict adherence to infection control protocols, proper PPE use, and collaboration with clinical teams to support patient safety and care flow. This on-site position offers stability within a leading health system.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Must wear protective equipment as required by environment or government regulations such as gowns, gloves, goggles, rubber-soled closed-toe footwear, etc.
  • Physical requirements include standing for long periods, reaching, bending, and sometimes lifting supplies and equipment weighing up to 80% of the time.
  • Ability to operate light cleaning equipment and ladders.
  • Ability to clean high-acuity clinical areas such as IR/Cardiac Cath/Mother-Baby/NICU/OR/ED.

  • Conducts hazardous and biohazardous waste removal per safety regulations.

Job description

  • Provides cleaning and sanitizing services to support a safe, clean and welcoming environment.
  • Cleans and sanitizes patient rooms, offices, clinics, clinical and procedural areas, and public spaces.
  • Supports patient safety through consistent and high-quality service.
  • Demonstrates ability to support the cleaning and disinfection of high-acuity clinical and procedural areas.
  • Applies disinfection protocols and utilizes approved cleaning tools in accordance with infection control standards and hospital policy.
  • Conducts hazardous and biohazardous waste removal in compliance with safety regulations and infection prevention protocols.
  • Proactively communicates and collaborates with clinical teams to ensure cleaning processes support patient safety and care flow.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Must be able to wear protective equipment/clothing required by the environment or government regulations such as gowns, gloves, goggles, rubber-soled closed-toe footwear, etc.
  • Physical requirements to include: reaching, standing for long periods of time, squatting, bending, carrying and/or lifting supplies and equipment weighing 35 lbs. or more, up to 80% of the time.
  • Requires the ability to operate light floor equipment for cleaning floors in patient care areas.
  • Requires the ability to climb ladders.
  • Requires the ability to clean areas that require technical cleaning including IR/Cardiac Cath/Mother-Baby/NICU/OR/ED.
