Job summary

Indiana University Health in Bloomington is seeking a dedicated environmental services associate to provide cleaning and sanitizing in patient rooms, clinics, and public spaces. You will apply disinfection protocols and support patient safety through consistent, high-quality service. This role requires physical activity; protective equipment may be needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience preferred.
  • No previous experience required.
  • Must be able to wear protective equipment/clothing required by the environment or regulations such as gowns, gloves, goggles, footwear, etc.
  • Physical requirements include standing for long periods, lifting up to 35 lbs or more up to 80% of the time, and ability to use light floor equipment.
  • Ability to climb ladders and perform cleaning in technical areas like IR/Cardiac Cath/Mother-Baby/NICU/OR/ED.

  • Supports patient safety through consistent and high-quality service.
  • Demonstrates ability to support the cleaning and disinfection of high-acuity clinical and procedural areas.
  • Applies disinfection protocols and utilizes approved cleaning tools according to infection control standards and hospital policy.
  • Conducts hazardous and biohazardous waste removal in compliance with safety regulations and infection prevention protocols.
  • Proactively communicates and collaborates with clinical teams to ensure cleaning processes support patient safety and care flow.

  • Must be able to wear protective equipment/clothing required by the environment or government regulations such as gowns, gloves, goggles, rubber-soled closed-toe footwear, etc.
  • Physical requirements to include: reaching, standing for long periods of time, squatting, bending, carrying and/or lifting supplies and equipment weighing 35 lbs. or more, up to 80% of the time.
  • Requires the ability to operate light floor equipment for cleaning floors in patient care areas.
  • Requires the ability to climb ladders.
  • Requires the ability to clean areas that require technical cleaning including IR/Cardiac Cath/Mother-Baby/NICU/OR/ED.
