Job summary

Catholic Charities of Ingham, Eaton, and Clinton Counties is seeking a dedicated Facilities Custodian to maintain a clean, safe environment for staff, clients, and visitors. You will perform daily cleaning of offices, restrooms, and common areas and assist with setup for meetings and programs.

This on-site afternoon shift (3:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.) requires attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team while following safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience: Prior custodial or janitorial experience preferred; knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and safety standards.
• General: Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of offices, restrooms, common areas, and program spaces, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting
• Empty, clean, and replace liners in trash and recycling receptacles throughout the facility
• Clean, disinfect, and restock restrooms, kitchens, and breakrooms to ensure a safe and welcoming environment
• Wash windows, walls, and interior glass as needed to maintain cleanliness and appearance
• Promptly report maintenance or repair needs to the Facilities Manager
• Participate in seasonal and special cleaning projects such as carpet shampooing, deep sanitization, or exterior cleanup efforts
• Assist with room setup and takedown for meetings, events, and programs
• Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed in support of program and operational needs
• Follow all safety protocols and use cleaning chemicals and equipment according to established procedures and training
• Maintain custodial supply inventory and communicate supply needs to the Facilities Manager in a timely manner
• Support agency safety, security, and emergency procedures to promote a safe environment for staff, clients, and visitors
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission and operations of Catholic Charities

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• This position is on-site and is not eligible for remote work
• Physical requirements include frequent use of hands for handling objects, tools, or controls; talking, bending, squatting, twisting, climbing, kneeling, reaching, and occasionally lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds
• Vision requirements include close-up work, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus
• The work environment may involve varying degrees of physical discomfort and occasional loud noise
