Job summary

Massachusetts General Hospital is seeking an Environmental Services Aide to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary healthcare environment across patient and non-patient areas. Responsibilities include cleaning, disinfection, waste handling, and infection prevention per standards.

Evening shift, 25 hours per week, regular employment. Located at 149 Thirteenth Street Building 149, Boston, MA. Pay range $17.71–$22.15 hourly.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: Related experience 0-1 year preferred.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safe handling.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning and disinfection duties according to schedules and infection prevention standards.
  • Collect, transport, and dispose of waste according to guidelines.
  • Maintain patient and non-patient areas in a clean, safe environment.
  • Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed to support operations.
  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment (floor machines, buffers).
  • Report hazards and equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel.

Summary

Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary healthcare environment through routine cleaning, disinfection, waste removal, and infection prevention practices. Ensures assigned patient and non-patient care areas meet established cleanliness and safety standards.

Essential Functions
  • Perform cleaning and disinfection duties in accordance with established schedules, infection prevention standards, and departmental procedures.
  • Collect, transport, and dispose of waste streams according to regulatory and organizational guidelines.
  • Clean and service assigned patient care and non-patient care areas to maintain a safe, sanitary, and orderly environment.
  • Move furniture, equipment, and supplies throughout the medical center as needed to support operational needs.
  • Operate and maintain environmental services equipment, including floor machines and buffers.
  • Maintain patient rooms, common areas, offices, and clinical spaces in a clean and presentable condition.
  • Follow all safety, infection control, and environmental services policies and procedures.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance concerns, or safety hazards to appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in a minimum of eight departmental or unit meetings annually.
  • Provide courteous and professional service to patients, visitors, and staff while supporting a positive healthcare environment.
