Job summary

St. Croix Health in Wisconsin is seeking a part-time Environmental Services Aide to maintain a safe, hygienic hospital environment. The role runs 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with every other weekend and a rotating holiday schedule, supporting patient care areas and staff.

You will perform cleaning, disinfection, linen delivery, waste disposal, and equipment operation following infection prevention guidelines. Excellent communication and attention to detail are essential in this fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Experience in healthcare housekeeping preferred.
  • Ability to understand instructions and learn new methods.

Responsibilities

  • Clean all assigned areas throughout the facility.
  • Disinfect patient care areas in a timely manner.
  • Deliver clean linen and monitor inventory.
  • Remove waste and manage proper disposal.
  • Follow safety, infection prevention and safety guidelines.
  • Assist with special cleaning projects and report safety concerns.
  • Operate cleaning equipment safely.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct.

Description

St. Croix Health is seeking a part-time Environmental Services Aide to join our team. This position is scheduled to work 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., including every other weekend and a rotating holiday schedule.

This position is responsible for executing the daily duties required to establish and maintain a safe, hygienic and aesthetically pleasing care environment. This position will have contact with patients, visitors and clinical/non-clinical staff. The Environmental Services Aide is responsible for following basic principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Cleans all assigned areas throughout the facility.
  • Responsible for cleaning and disinfection of assigned patient care areas in a timely manner
  • Adheres to organization safety, risk management and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety
  • Delivers clean linen to appropriate areas as directed; Monitors and replenishes necessary inventory levels as needed
  • Removes waste and solid linens and transport to appropriate area; Identifies proper waste handling method
  • Appropriately remove and dispose of any/all hazardous materials
  • Maintains department standards on an ongoing basis and assists in the responsibilities for survey readiness
Utilizes chemicals and supplies efficiently.
  • Utilizes chemical dispensing units according to manufacture directions and properly reports disinfectant cleaner in the efficacy logs as required
  • Re-stock supplies in closets and carts at the end of each shift
Operates department equipment.
  • Reports any damage or unsafe equipment to Maintenance Services using the work request system
  • Uses equipment in a safe, orderly manner
Other duties as assigned.
  • Perform special projects as assigned; Special projects are assigned according to department cleaning schedules when routine tasks are completed
  • Report on all fire and safety concerns; Ensures all safety practices and guidelines are followed
  • Cleans emergency spills as requested in a timely manner
  • Ensure doors are always locked to the cleaning closets and cleaning carts are not stored in the corridors or hallways unattended

Requirements
Education & Licensure:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
Experience:
  • Knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools and techniques in a healthcare environment preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to understand instructions and learn new work methods
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Ability to maintain strict level of confidentiality when required
  • Ability to communicate and maintain a satisfactory working relationship with all levels of leadership, staff, patients and visitors
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding and at times high stress environment, providing quick turnover depending on the needs of our staff and patients
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with little direction and manage multiple demands and priorities
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
