Job summary

HDR is seeking an Environmental Scientist II to join the Transportation Business Group in Bellevue, WA. The role focuses on collecting project data, evaluating environmental constraints, and supporting permit coordination for complex projects across highways, bridges, and rail systems.

You will assist with analysis, reporting, and stakeholder meetings while advancing HDR’s employee‑owned culture. A Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience are required, along with strong writing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or closely related field.
  • 5 years technical and/or field experience preparing environmental documents.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel).
  • Strong environmental writing and communication skills.
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem‑solving and research abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture.

Responsibilities

  • Collect project‑related data, including research, surveys for listed species, interviews with agencies and clients, map reviews, and field investigations.
  • Assimilate and manage data.
  • Prepare constraint mapping.
  • Define the level of environmental analysis required.
  • Perform complex assignments, making independent decisions on problems and methods.
  • Assist in preparation for and participation in public information meetings and hearings.
  • Assist clients with permit coordination, acquisition and compliance.
  • Work independently on medium‑size projects, or assist senior scientists on larger projects.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Collect project‑related data, which may include research, conducting surveys for listed species, interviews with government agencies and clients, map reviews, and field investigations for wetlands, land use, etc.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years experience as a CESL inspector on construction sites.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a closely related field.
  • 5 years technical and/or field experience preparing environmental documents.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel).
  • Strong environmental writing and communication skills.
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem‑solving and research abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to an active participation in HDR’s employee‑owned culture.
