Job summary

HDR is seeking an Environmental Scientist II to collect project-related data, conduct surveys, review maps and manage environmental analyses for wetlands and land use. You will work independently on medium-sized projects or with senior scientists on larger assignments, contributing to compliant and efficient project delivery.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's in Environmental Science or a closely related field, 5 years of technical/field experience, and strong writing and MS Office

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or closely related field.
  • 5 years technical and/or field experience preparing environmental documents.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel).
  • Strong environmental writing and communication skills.
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving and research abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Responsibilities

  • Collect project-related data, including research, surveys for listed species, interviews with government agencies and clients, map reviews and field investigations for wetlands and land use.
  • Assimilate and manage data.
  • Prepare constraints mapping.
  • Define the level of environmental analysis required.
  • Perform complex assignments and make independent decisions on problems and methods.
  • Assist in preparation for and participation in public information meetings and hearings.
  • Assist clients with permit coordination, acquisition and compliance.
  • Work independently on medium-size projects or with senior scientists on larger projects.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

In the role of Environmental Scientist II, we'll count on you to

  • Collect project-related data, which may include research, conducting surveys for listed species, interviews with government agencies and clients, map reviews, field investigations for wetlands, land use, etc

  • Assist public and private clients with permit coordination, acquisition and compliance
  • Work independently on medium-size projects, or assist more-senior scientists on larger projects
  • Perform other related duties as needed
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to complete field site visits and record natural resource data in conditions that include sloped terrain, thick vegetation, and inclement weather
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds without assistance
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in person, by telephone and email
  • Must be able to effectively work in minimally supervised and/or unsupervised environments
  • Work hours other than 8 to 5 which may include weekends and/or night shifts
  • Must have a valid Driver's License
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle day or night
  • There will be required travel for project work based on the needs of the business
