In the role of Environmental Scientist II
  • Ability to lead wetland and stream delineations and functional assessments, vegetation surveys, wildlife habitat surveys, and other field activities in urban and remote settings.
  • Collect project‑related data, which may include research, field investigations for wetlands and waters, ability to complete aquatic and terrestrial habitat assessment, map reviews, land use, etc.
  • Independently prepare written environmental reports including wetland and stream delineation reports, critical areas reports, floodplain habitat assessments, shoreline site assessments, monitoring reports, and assist in developing mitigation options, plans and documents to address project impacts.
  • Prepare documentation to support critical areas regulations, Endangered Species Act consultation, Clean Water Act Section 404 and 401 Permitting, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Section 10, SEPA/NEPA compliance, WDFW Hydraulic Project Approvals, local Shoreline Permits, Local Land Use Permits or Variances, and other state/local permits.
  • Work independently on small to medium‑size projects, or assist more senior scientists on larger projects.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with wetland delineations using Western Mountain Valleys Coast and Arid West delineation regional supplements to the Corps of Engineers wetland delineation manuals.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Federal and/or Washington state/local permits.
  • Assist in defining the level of environmental analysis required.
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or Wetland Professional in Training (WPIT) certification.
  • Experience with GPS units, GIS software and webmaps, to support data collection, mapping, and reporting.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s license and ability to travel locally on a regular basis to conduct field work.
  • Effective conceptual, problem‑solving and research abilities.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to work in a fast‑paced work environment with changing deadlines and priorities.
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety and quality and an attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture are essential.
  • Qualified WSDOT Biological Assessment Author.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or closely related field.
  • 5 years technical and/or field experience preparing environmental documents.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel).
  • Strong environmental writing and communication skills.
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem‑solving and research abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
