Job summary

Johnson County Community College (JCCC) seeks a SRC Tutor I in Environmental Science to support students across drop-in and appointment tutoring, both online and in-person. The role involves guiding lab techniques, referencing resources, and maintaining records per FERPA guidelines.

Part-time, non-exempt, with hours 12 per week, on-site in Overland Park. Requires a high school diploma and completion of environmental science courses, with opportunity to assist in daily center operations and

Qualifications

• Requires basic skill set and proficiency.
• Conductions of work assignments as directed.
• Closely supervised with little latitude for independent judgment.
• Requires high school diploma, and successful completion of environmental science courses or sustainability focused courses.
• Able to support students in the environmental science labs.

Responsibilities

• Tutor students through drop-in, by-appointment, and/or semester-long tutoring (online and/or in-person) lower-level biology courses.
• Refer students to appropriate resources within the relevant resource center and larger Academic Resource Center.
• Refer students to appropriate resources outside the relevant resource center/Academic Resource Center with consultation/direction from the relevant supervisor.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records, adhering to FERPA and keeping staff updated on progress and problems.
• Assist in daily activities of the center, cover front desk and checkout resources when needed, ensure students are checked in/out, maintain center space and policies.
• Assist students with computer systems/software and help troubleshoot issues as they impact tutoring operations.
• Use scheduling system to manage tutoring schedules.
• Participate in mandatory center training and campus-wide training opportunities.
• Follow good work ethics by reporting on time and staying the scheduled hours.
