Job summary

Elliot Health System is seeking an Environmental Safety Support Specialist to aid the safety department with hazardous materials handling, waste operations, and safety rounds. The role includes back-up HW coordination, audits, and DECON team support across hospital sites in NH.

The candidate will have a high school diploma, at least two years in an environmental-related field, and a NH driver’s license, with a strong focus on infection control and chemical safety.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Two plus years in environmental field in healthcare or similar setting preferred.
• NH driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Support hazardous waste handling, collection, packaging and shipping.
• Attend training and back-up HW Coordinator duties as required.
• Conduct periodic audits of storage of hazardous materials and waste.
• Perform hazard surveillance rounds and assist DECON team activities.
• Complete environmental audits and scheduled/ad-hoc waste collection.
• Package universal waste per regulatory requirements.

**Job Description:****About the Job:**The Environmental Safety Support Specialist will be responsible for supporting various aspects of the safety department, including but not limited to hazardous materials handling, hazardous waste operations, safety hazard surveillance rounds, and the employee fit testing program.**What You’ll Do:*** Provides physical support across the Elliot Health System (EHS) for any manual tasks pertaining to hazardous waste, including but not limited to collecting, sorting, packaging and shipping* Attends annual training and acts as a back-up HW Coordinator as defined by regulatory requirements.* Conducts scheduled frequency audits on storage of hazardous materials and waste.* Conducts general hazard surveillance rounds, as assigned.* Attends Hazardous Materials and Waste Sub-committee.* Attends all activities related to and provides physical support to DECON team; keeps all requirements up to date to be a member of the team* Acts as back-up EHS HW Coordinator as defined by state of NH requirements.* Completes and documents assigned environmental audits.* Complete scheduled and ad-hoc sharps collection throughout hospital and Rivers Edge locations.* Completes scheduled collection of non-hazardous and hazardous pharmaceutical waste.* Completes scheduled compressed gas cylinder distribution rounds at hospital and Rivers Edge locations.* Completes ad-hoc lab and pharmacy hazardous waste removal; provides back-up collection preparation for shipping.* Audits and packages universal waste for picking up per regulatory requirements.**Who You Are:*** High School Diploma or Equivalent required* Two (2) plus years of experience in Environmental related field in healthcare or similar environment preferred.* Valid NH Driver’s License required* Knowledgeable in infection Control Principles Bloodborne Pathogens Chemical Safety required* Basic computer knowledge for data entry required* Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure, provide superb customer service to all departments, and the ability to multitask**Why You’ll Love Us:*** Medical, Dental, Vision Benefits starting the 1st of the month following your start date.* Accrued Earned Time* 403b with matching (fully vested) and discretionary annual core contributions* Tuition Reimbursement up to $4,000/year for full time coded employees over 30 hours/week* Miscellaneous Benefits – Pet Insurance, Legal Services, Vendor Discounts**Work Shift:**Day
