Job summary

The Science Museum of Minnesota's St. Croix Watershed Research Station seeks an Environmental Research Fellow to assist research staff with daily lab and field duties, gaining skills in analytical chemistry techniques and environmental sampling.

This one-year fellowship is located in Marine on Saint Croix, MN, with a Monday–Friday schedule (8:30am–4:30pm), field sampling in northern Minnesota every other week June–October, and opportunities to design experiments and contribute to water quality

Qualifications

• 4 year degree in the biological or physical sciences.
• Candidate must have demonstrated a strong attention to details.
• Ability to do basic dilution and concentration calculations.
• Ability to work independently and on a team.
• Experience working in a lab or field setting
• Willingness to be open and respectful of all backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Filters, labels and keeps records of water samples.
• Weighs, labels and prepares subsamples of sediment for extractions and analyses.
• Assists with chemical extractions of sediment and water samples.
• Performs basic analyses using a variety of lab instruments.
• Cleans labware.
• Assists with water quality sampling and sediment core collection in the field.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
