Job summary

National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) is seeking an Environmental Protection Specialist in Ochopee, FL under the ESP program with the National Park Service. The position offers $55.00 per hour for 15 hours per week, through NEW Solutions, targeting experienced workers aged 55+.

The role requires an MA/MS in Environmental Science or Cultural Resources and at least 5 years of related experience, plus knowledge of NEPA, environmental laws, and federal, state, and local regulatory

These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

Qualifications

MA/MS Degree in Environmental Science, Cultural Resources, or related field with minimum additional experience of 5 year(s)

  • Thorough technical knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and standards and how they are applied by various Federal, state, and local authorities. Knowledge of Clean Water Act, NEPA, Clean Water Act, cultural resources, NHPA, and experience with NEPA CEs and EAs.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, MS Outlook, MS SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat
Duties

Coordinates technical review of proposed actions by interdisciplinary team members (IDT). Coordinates and prepares documentation using the NPS PEPC (Planning, Environment & Public Comment) system for actions that require a variety of evaluation and NEPA documentation, including memos to file, categorical exclusions, and Environmental Assessments. Reviews and refines project descriptions and scopes of work for inclusion of required mitigation measures. Serves as a point of contact for project managers and contractors to assist in ensuring compliance requirements are met. Ensures NEPA documentation, including related endangered Species Act, NHPA, etc. is complete in PEPC.

  • ??Park Projects Support: Coordinates with Big Cypress staff to develop project descriptions in PEPC and assign tasks to reviewers as appropriate. Maintains organized summary of the compliance program of work for Big Cypress National Preserve in coordination with other staff and Preserve leadership.45%
  • Coordinates technical review of proposed actions by interdisciplinary team members (IDT). IDT reviews include natural resources topics (Endangered Species Act, Wetlands, Clean Water Act, etc., Cultural resources topics (section 106, Tribal coordination, other NHPA, etc. Ensures documentation of all compliance reviews within the PEPC system.45%
  • Works with other staff to provide general support to Big Cypress National Preserve, and works to apply knowledge of the compliance process to advance special projects.10%
