Job summary

Anderson Eckstein & Westrick, Inc. is seeking an Environmental Project Engineer to join our team. This role focuses on planning, design, permitting, and compliance for wastewater, stormwater, EGLE MS4 permits, and solid waste infrastructure projects.

You will serve as a municipal MS4 permit coordinator, assist communities with stormwater management, regulatory reporting, and annual progress reporting while mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• BS in Environmental or Civil Engineering.
• 4+ years of related work experience.
• Active Professional Engineer license in Michigan.
• Familiarity with EGLE, MS4, and EPA regulations, standards, and reporting.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS, and hydraulic modeling tools.
• Strong technical writing, communication, and documentation skills.
• Ability to conduct fieldwork, site inspections, and sampling activities.
• Familiarity with solid waste management, landfill operations, or leachate systems.

Responsibilities

• Prepares permit applications, technical reports, and supporting documentation for wastewater, stormwater, air quality and solid waste projects.
• Conducts site assessments, inspections, and environmental monitoring to support project development and compliance.
• Serves as technical liaison with SMSD, SMDA, and municipal partners to review project requirements and maintain relationships.
• Performs MS4 permit coordination to support regulatory reporting and annual progress reporting.
• Develops engineering reports, feasibility studies, environmental impact summaries, and corrective action plans.
• Monitors project progress, schedule, and budget.
• Ensures all activities comply with EGLE, EPA and other regulations.
• Analyzes environmental data and prepares engineering recommendations.
• Provides on-site oversight during construction and reviews submittals and RFIs.
• Identifies opportunities to enhance environmental performance, sustainability, and efficiency for client facilities.
• Mentors less experienced staff.
