Job summary

The City of Newton seeks an Assistant Environmental Planner to support wetlands protection, land management, and long-range environmental planning initiatives. You will review permit applications, conduct site visits, and assist with Conservation Commission meetings.

You will work under the Planning and Development leadership, handling administrative tasks, budgeting, website updates, and GIS mapping across multiple projects for a vibrant municipal environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental studies, city planning or related field.
• Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and GIS (ARCGIS).
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with State Wetland Protection Act and City Floodplain Ordinance implementation.
• Review wetland permit applications for completeness and compliance.
• Respond to inquiries and conduct site visits.
• Assist with Conservation Commission meetings and prepare memorandums and visual presentations.
• Maintain division website and handle financial transactions (purchase orders, bill pay, contracts) using MUNIS.
• Coordinate with residents, contractors and public officials to resolve issues.
