Job summary

The Washington State Department of Ecology seeks a Professional Engineer to join the Eastern Region Water Quality team in Spokane as a Facility Engineer and Permit Writer. You will develop NPDES and state wastewater permits, review engineering plans, and provide technical assistance to facilities discharging wastewater.

You will collaborate with a dedicated team to protect surface and groundwater across Washington’s eastern counties, negotiate permit conditions, and ensure compliance with permit

Qualifications

• Registration as a Professional Engineer in WA or equivalent.
• Three years of environmental engineering experience including permit development, engineering review, regulatory interpretation, data & modeling analysis, technical communication, and problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Negotiate and review environmental plans and monitoring programs for permitted facilities.
• Review engineering documents to ensure protection of water quality.
• Assist with site inspections and provide technical assistance to meet permit requirements.
• Author NPDES permits for industrial and municipal facilities to protect water quality.
• Author NPDES permits to protect groundwater for facilities.
