Job summary

Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment seeks a senior leader to oversee the Environmental Microbiology Unit in Denver. You will supervise staff, manage daily laboratory operations, and ensure timely, accurate testing and reporting in compliance with EPA, FDA, ISO, and state standards.

You will lead method development, validation, and quality assurance programs, providing technical guidance and supporting regulatory partnerships across public health initiatives in Colorado.

Qualifications

• Nine years of related education and/or experience in biology, method development, or lab work.
• Experience with method development and validation studies.
• Experience supervising high-complexity testing in a CLIA or ISO17025 lab.
• Familiarity with EPA, FDA, ISO and state regulatory requirements.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct, supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate staff within the Environmental Microbiology Unit.
• Plan workload and ensure timely testing, reporting, and deliverables.
• Provide technical guidance on testing methodologies and data interpretation.
• Oversee QA/QC activities and proficiency testing.
• Coordinate administrative tasks: budgets, contracts, equipment, and client communication.
