Job summary

The State Hygienic Laboratory, Iowa’s Environmental and Public Health Laboratory, at the University of Iowa in Coralville, seeks an Environmental Laboratory Analyst (PHB1) to conduct routine and non-routine microbiology testing on diverse samples, with strong QC and documentation.

Expected schedule is Mon-Fri 8:30–5:30 with rotating holidays/weekends; 1-Year specified term; on-site in Coralville, IA. Salary range $47,000–$49,000 and pay grade 3A.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Medical Technology or related biological science or equivalent.
• Experience documenting, reviewing and releasing routine data and reports.
• Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with basic math and Microsoft Excel.
• Laboratory pipetting experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and non-routine environmental microbiology testing on water, sludge, food, and environmental surface samples with QC and documentation.
• Answer inquiries from county health dept personnel regarding water test results and procedures.
