Job summary

City of Denton, TX seeks a Laboratory Analyst to perform routine operational control and permit compliance testing for drinking water, wastewater, and related programs. The role includes BOD/CBOD, TSS, pH, ammonia, coliform analyses and QA/QC tasks under NELAP standards.

Requires an associate degree or two years of college in a related field, with 3 years of environmental lab experience and a TX Class D Water Distribution License within a year.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or two years of college in chemistry, biology, environmental science or related field.
• Three (3) years of experience in an environmental, water, or wastewater laboratory.
• Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
• Must currently have or be able to obtain a TCEQ Class D Water Distribution License within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine operational control and permit compliance testing for multiple city divisions.
• Performs BOD, CBOD, TSS, pH, NH3, Total Coliform, E. coli, turbidity, and related analyses per NELAP standards.
• Reads, comprehends and implements Standard Method procedures and SOP documents.
• Maintains NELAP certification requirements and passes Proficiency Tests annually.
• Prepares laboratory materials, glassware, reagents and standards for testing.
• Records daily temperature data and checks equipment per QA/QC requirements.
• Performs maintenance in the laboratory and supports field sampling as needed.
• Collects distribution samples for the public water system and produces monthly reports.
