Job summary

IoES at UCLA seeks a Research Assistant to engage in community-engaged geochemical and environmental justice research, education, outreach, and communications in Los Angeles. The role supports GIS and STEM data analysis for literature reviews and reports, and provides administrative support for related activities with community partners.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of environmental science, geoscience, GIS, and/or geochemistry sufficient to support research activities.
• Experience with climate justice, environmental justice, and/or youth organizing.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in research, education, and outreach.
• Experience with atmospheric chemistry concepts and/or data.
• Familiarity with GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) and ability to learn geospatial analysis procedures.
• Ability to learn and apply scientific procedures and protocols for the current research.
• Strong written communication skills for scientific and community audiences.
• Strong verbal communication skills with diverse backgrounds.
• Working knowledge of MS Office, Google Workspace, and Zoom.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines on multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Engage in community-engaged geochemical and environmental justice research, education, outreach, and communications.
• Contribute to GIS and STEM data analysis for literature reviews and reports.
• Provide administrative support to related research and program activities.
• Work with community partners and mentor/train others on entry-level tasks.
• Assist in presenting research and preparing communication materials.
• Support active projects spanning geochemistry, atmospheric chemistry, environmental justice, and community health.
