Job summary

IoES at UCLA is seeking a Research Assistant to join community-engaged geochemical and environmental justice research, education, outreach, and communications. You will contribute to GIS and STEM data analysis for literature reviews and reports, provide administrative support to related activities, and collaborate with community partners while mentoring entry-level staff.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of environmental science, geoscience, GIS, and/or geochemistry to support research.
• Experience with climate justice and environmental justice and/or youth organizing.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in research, education, and outreach.
• Experience with atmospheric chemistry concepts and/or data.
• Familiarity with GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) and ability to learn geospatial procedures.
• Ability to learn and apply scientific procedures and protocols.
• Strong written communication across scientific, community, and non-scientific audiences.
• Strong verbal communication with diverse audiences.
• Working knowledge of MS Office, Google Workspace, and Zoom.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines while multitasking.
• Bilingual English/Spanish (Preferred).
• Knowledge of UCLA regulations and research compliance (Preferred).

Responsibilities

• Engage in community-engaged geochemical and environmental justice research, education, outreach, and communications.
• Contribute to GIS and STEM data analysis for literature reviews and reports.
• Provide administrative support to related research and program activities.
• Work with community partners and mentor/train entry-level staff.
• Assist in presenting research and preparing communication materials.
• Support projects spanning geochemistry, atmospheric chemistry, environmental justice, and community health.
