Qualifications

  • Six years’ experience performing in a Safety Engineer / Manager role in a related assembly environment (preferred automotive)

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical environmental safety and health support to production and corporate personnel
  • Develop and monitor annual EH&S goals and monthly metrics
  • Deliver EH&S training curricula for new hires and ongoing programs
  • Develop and implement EH&S programs and policies
  • Lead hazard analyses and participate in product/process reviews
  • Support engineering in implementing controls to minimize hazards
  • Advise on PPE selection and maintain EH&S library
  • Promote EH&S awareness through memoranda and trainings
  • Chair or participate in the Executive EH&S committee
  • Oversee hazard communication programs and regulatory reporting
  • Review procedures and ensure compliance with regulations
  • Monitor regulatory changes and advise on compliance timelines
  • Audit plant practices and records for compliance
  • Track workplace injuries and workers’ compensation claims
  • Conduct loss reviews and safety committee follow-ups

Job description

OVERVIEW:

The EH&S Manager provides technical environmental safety and health support to production and corporate personnel. Develops corporate environmental safety and health programs and objectives and coordinates training programs. Monitors environmental safety and health regulations and provides technical support to plant and corporate personnel to ensure compliance with federal and state environmental safety and health regulations. The EH&S Manager will serve as primary environmental health and safety advisor for all levels of the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Works closely with staff in operations, engineering, human resources, and other functions to provide technical environmental safety and health support and direction to corporate and production personnel.
  • Develops annual company EH&S goals and updates monthly metrics.
  • Develops and delivers curriculum for New Hire Orientation and other EH&S training.
  • Directs the development of written environmental, safety and health programs and policies (Safety Committee, Safety Assessment Audit Program, Work Conditioning Program, Wellness programs).
  • Participates in new product/process reviews, including process hazard analyses, operator training, etc.
  • Supports corporate/plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards.
  • Supports plant personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Maintains corporate EH&S library (e.g., videos, regulations, reference manuals).
  • Promotes EH&S awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters and specific training programs.
  • Serves as member of the Executive Environmental Health & Safety committee.
  • Leads implementation of a hazard communication program and preparation of reports.
  • Reviews process-operating procedures/records and provides input for environmental safety and health considerations.
  • Understands federal and state environmental safety and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur.
  • Provides technical support to corporate and plant personnel to ensure compliance with applicable environmental safety and health regulations.
  • Advices manufacturing plants and corporate staff of regulatory changes with which the plants must comply. Advance notice should be provided so that compliance on the effective date of new regulations is ensured.
  • Audits practices and records of manufacturing plants to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state environmental safety and health regulations.
  • Monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and worker’s compensation claims.
  • Conducts Worker’s Compensation loss review with Plant controller.
  • Reviews plant safety committee meeting minutes and safety inspection reports and follows up as necessary.
  • Reviews injury/illness and noninjury incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Six years’ experience performing in a Safety Engineer / Manager role in a related assembly environment are required, preferred to be automotive experience
  • A Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in a related field
  • Experience and a solid understanding of applicable federal, state and local safety regulations and industry standards, including ANSI B 11.19, RIA 15.06, OSHA 1910, OSHA 1910.147, NFPA 70E, OSHA 1910.132,
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) at an advanced level
  • Possess a strong work ethic with absolute integrity as well as the professional maturity necessary to gain the confidence of senior leaders within the company and the local communities
  • Demonstrate a measured style with the ability to remain poised when faced with crisis situations.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to forge positive relationships with employees, regulatory officials and corporate executives to communicate the company’s safety and environmental health policies and accomplishments
