Requirements:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Evaluate and update existing safety policies to ensure continued effectiveness.
- Partner with human resources to develop workplace safety recognition programs, as well as company-wide safety and wellness initiatives.
- Manage health and safety training programs for all levels of operation – New Hire, Forklift, First Aid/CPR, AED and BBP, Fall Protection, LOTO, Emergency Planning, and more.
- Lead accident investigation, ensure proper reporting, documentation, and policy updates, as well as safety inspections.
- Assist in the development of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) programs and recommend such equipment as necessary to meet the needs of the department.
- Work with property and casualty insurance providers to reduce risk through loss mitigation.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Monitor compliance with the organization’s health and safety policies and procedures, and advise managers on areas of non-compliance.
- Maintain and implement inspection policies and procedures, along with a schedule of routine inspections for safety requirements.
- Develop and maintain all required OSHA written management processes, including recordkeeping requirements per local, state, and federal regulations, such as OSHA 300 logs.
- Implement company-wide accident prevention and injury reporting processes.
- Ensure that all accidents and near misses are reported and investigated according to organizational policies.
- Partner with human resources on accident investigations and corrective actions.
- Liaise with external groups such as local authorities, MEMIC, fire departments, law enforcement, etc., on health and safety issues.
- Ensure procedures meet all legal and regulatory obligations, including security, fire safety, structural integrity, and accessibility.
- Ensure necessary employee baseline testing, such as hearing tests and PPE physicals, are completed annually.
- Encourage and facilitate team member input to drive continuous improvement.
- Manage mill security contractors and activities.
- Manage fleet safety.
- Conduct effective and consistent quarterly safety meetings.
- Assist with environmental compliance programs, including air licenses, water permits, SPCC, stormwater, universal waste, and municipal waste treatment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Required Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of environmental, worker health, and safety regulations and policies.
- Experience in manufacturing/production or construction.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially for team member training.
- Ability to collaborate with subject matter experts across the organization.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain it.
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or a related field such as engineering or industrial hygiene.
- At least five years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and requirements.
- Working knowledge of NFPA 660 regulations.
