Position Overview

Responsible for occupational safety and environmental health activities with major emphasis on the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). Lead management and employee involvement in health, safety and environmental affairs; worksite analysis; hazard prevention and control; and safety and health training. Act as a safety and environmental resource, providing advice, guidance and subject matter expertise for individual functional groups and departments.

What you'll do

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. (These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.)

  1. Develop, implement, and maintain all Safety and Environmental Health activities for the Broomfield Site.
  2. Maintain compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 29CFR1910, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 40CFR, and state and local EHS related regulations.
  3. Manage and maintain VPP Safety Management System: management commitment and employee involvement, worksite analysis, hazard prevention and control and training.
  4. Develop and update procedures (in ISO) according to business and regulatory changes.
  5. Manage audits by VPP and Corporate Safety.
  6. Coordinate with leaders to develop annual EHS plan.
  7. Guide leaders in their responsibility for safety.
  8. Control exposure to hazards through application of hierarchy of controls.
  9. Manage EHS related training.
  10. Collaborate with OSHA VPP Region 8 Manager and other VPP sites.
  11. Advance employee engagement opportunities.

Lead the EHS activities to provide subject matter expertise and advice to leaders and employees throughout the organizations. Build a collaborative environment to support employee safety through a team approach, working with every department throughout the Broomfield.

Guide inspection of processes, equipment, and facilities by various groups to detect existing or potential hazards, evaluate risks, determine corrective or preventive measures, and follow up to ensure closure.

Manage the Safety Learning Management System, from sourcing to building, launching and growth. Coordinates EHS training including developing content, delivery, recordkeeping, and coordinating with other trainers. Delivers training in an engaging and effective manner to classes of various sizes and a range of employee attendees. Develop content library for use by Broomfield.

Provide effective meaningful metrics and reports to management. Analyze accident trends and risks, and prepare reports for use by company personnel and outside agencies.

Guide thorough and effective process of incident investigation and root cause analysis to be completed by employees’ leadership.

Participate in machine safety risk assessment process, comprising a cross-functional team of engineers, maintenance, safety, and operations.

Develop, maintain and enhance strong safety and environmental cultures.

Positively resolve EHS related concerns and problems of employees, functional groups/ departments in a timely manner.

Interact successfully and be a liaison with applicable local, state and federal agencies as necessary.

Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Position requires regular and predictable attendance.

Who you are

An employee in this position, upon appointment, should have the equivalent of the following:

  • Solid knowledge of manufacturing processes and industrial safety.
  • Solid knowledge of OSHA regulations and VPP, and environmental regulations.
  • Expert knowledge of communication skills (oral and written) and how to adapt to various situations when dealing with or providing feedback.
  • Expert knowledge of developing and maintaining effective work relationships, demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills, understanding various perspectives, and working effectively with a wide range of associates in a diverse community.
  • Skill in influencing employees and leaders, coaching teams and developing safety skills in employees at all levels and backgrounds.
  • Skill in conducting presentations to all size audiences.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining effective work relationships, and developing skills of subordinates.
  • Skill in analyzing trends, and presenting recommendations for action plans to management based on the analysis.
  • Skill in use of computer and software packages such as, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other office computer applications.
  • Skill in project management to prioritize and organize multiple work assignments.
  • Ability to utilize creative thinking and problem solving techniques on a daily basis.
  • Ability to conduct work in a self-directed manner with limited supervision.
  • Acceptable Training and Experience requires a Bachelor’s degree in a safety or science, business, operations, or engineering. 10 plus years of EHS experience and more than 6 years management experience in a manufacturing environment is required. Regulatory training or experience with OSHA, EPA and FDA and certification as an EHS professional are a plus.
