Job summary

Triumph Geared Solutions in Macomb, MI seeks an Environmental Safety & Health (ES&H) Specialist to develop, manage, and maintain the facility’s ES&H program, promoting safe and healthful work practices for employees, assets, and operations.

You will work with all levels of staff, serve on the plant President’s staff, and act as liaison with government agencies, driving continuous improvement in safety and environmental performance.

Qualifications

  • B.A./B.S. in Environmental Science, Physical Sciences, Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, Business Management, or related field.
  • ES&H-related certifications preferred (REM, CIH, CSP, CHMM)
  • 3–5 years ES&H experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Good computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and understand English
  • Ability to assemble and analyze safety incident data and provide statistical information
  • Ability to provide leadership and guidance to the site management team

Responsibilities

Overview

Environmental Safety & Health (ES&H) Specialist at Triumph Geared Solutions - Macomb develops, manages, and maintains the facility’s ES&H Program promoting safe and healthful work practices for the protection of the employees, physical assets, and production operations. The ES&H Specialist works with employees at all levels and is a member of the plant President’s staff. This role represents the company and serves as liaison with governmental agencies and interacts with the company's management team.

Duties / Responsibilities
  • Lead development of facility strategic ES&H planning. Work with plant management and staff to implement and execute plan
  • Lead and/or participate in the investigation of employee concerns, ES&H incidents, and near misses, with corrective action development, implementation, and follow-up
  • Maintain and communicate ES&H metrics as required to facility, division, and corporate ES&H management
  • Ensure ES&H reviews are integrated into the Management of Change process and Lean efforts
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing ES&H programs; determine the need for additional programs; develop and implement new programs as needed or directed by division and corporate management
  • Act as the facility ES&H contact with government agencies
  • Track and audit programs for compliance with state, city, and federal regulations, including inspections/audits and data for environmental reports, with timely report submittals (Form R, air emissions reports, etc.)
  • Develop and conduct environmental and safety training for new employees and annual training for existing employees; lead the safety committee and conduct walk-throughs
  • Ensure proper monitoring and staffing of the plant environmental control equipment and that monitoring/sampling/reporting is complete and submitted as required by permit
  • Lead representative of the Foreign Object Debris/Damage (FOD) Program
  • Generate and maintain FOD metrics for leadership and oversee FOD improvement projects
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • B.A./B.S. in Environmental Science, Physical Sciences, Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, Business Management, or related field
  • ES&H-related certifications preferred (Registered Environmental Manager (REM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM))
  • 3–5 years ES&H experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Good computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and understand English
  • Ability to assemble and analyze safety incident data and routinely provide statistical information in support of corporate reporting requirements
  • Ability to provide leadership and guidance to the site management team
Physical Requirements
  • Able to bend, stoop, stand, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs. as needed
  • Ability to remain seated for long periods of time while working on a computer or documentation
  • Must have manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard and standard office equipment
  • Must be capable of withstanding long periods of viewing data on a computer screen and/or in paper format
  • Ability to interact with a diversity of people and diverse levels of personnel
