Job summary

Hillphoenix in Keosauqua, IA is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to partner with the site operations team and drive safety as a core value. You will report to the EHS Manager and support daily compliance across production activities.

You will investigate safety and environmental issues, deliver OSHA-aligned training, conduct daily Gemba walks, and help maintain environmental programs while seeking continuous improvement. A degree and relevant experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher; minimum 5 years of relevant EHS experience in a manufacturing setting.
• Strong communication and presentation skills are required.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
• Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is expected.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support to the plant EHS Manager and staff; investigate and report safety/environmental issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Communicate safety priorities and regulatory updates clearly across the facility.
• Lead daily safety discussions with supervisors and shop floor personnel; conduct Gemba walks.
• Assist with incident investigations and OSHA/EHS training aligned with OSHA requirements.
• Audit and maintain compliance programs for safety and environmental regulations; identify improvement opportunities.
• Support OSHA inspections and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Title: Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist
Location: Keosauqua, Iowa

What We’re Looking For

The EHS Specialist will partner with the site operations team to help drive safety as a core value. The EHS Specialist will work under the direction of the EHS Manager.

What You’ll Be Responsible For In This Role

• Provide direct support to the plant EHS Manager and plant staff: investigate, recognize, report, and recommend corrective actions on safety and environmental compliance issues
• Communicate safety priorities, regulatory updates, and corrective actions clearly and consistently across the facility
• Coordinate with supervisors and shop floor personnel to engage in daily safety discussions
• Conduct daily Gemba walks
• Assist with incident investigations
• Learn, read, understand, and communicate EHS regulatory requirements
• Develop and deliver clear, effective EHS training to employees in alignment with OSHA requirements and company policies
• Audit and maintain systems to ensure compliance with all applicable safety and environmental programs of facility
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety and environmental compliance
• Support OSHA compliance inspections
• Perform other duties as assigned

What are the basic qualifications?

• Associate degree or in lieu of education minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
• Strong Communication and Presentation skills
• The ability to multi-task and prioritize workload
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point

What are the preferred qualifications?

• Previous EHS experience in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment
• OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Training
• Knowledge of safety (OSHA, NFPA & ANSI) and environmental (EPA) regulations
• Ability to contribute and participate in a team environment
• Ability to accomplish assigned tasks, provide feedback, construct plans, and demonstrate confidence in team leader and member roles.

To Be a Great Fit For The Role

• Experience in Enablon or other EHS platforms
• Strong knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 regulatory requirements
• Experience in coaching, training, networking and facilitation
