Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Leader

Job Title: EHS Leader (Environmental, Health & Safety)

Location: Janesville, WI

Job Type: Full-Time / Direct-Hire

Job Pay: $75,000 - $85,000 per year

Position Summary

Establishes and promotes a safe work environment free of recognized hazards to minimize occupational injuries and illnesses. Ensures safety and environmental compliance with local, state, and federal regulations using best management practices. Responsible for developing and maintaining systems and staff for formal training.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The items listed below are representative of these functions and may not be exhaustive.

  1. Analyze potential occupational hazards, develop plans to minimize these hazards, and execute accordingly.
  2. Develop, train, and track safety-related communications, programs, policies, reports, and metrics compliant with OSHA standards.
  3. Lead audits specific to Environmental Health and Safety.
  4. Ensure environmental compliance including air, water, and chemicals management.
  5. Maintain DOT records and compliance.
  6. Facilitate Safety Committee, Safety Steering Committee, Ergonomics Teams meetings; report on safety topics and metrics.
  7. Administer regular Safety Talks.
  8. Collaborate with Supervisors and Specialists to identify training needs, develop training plans, and validate competencies.
  9. Monitor and update training modules to identify requirements and document training history.
  10. Provide classroom forklift training, including walk-behind POVs.
  11. Coach and counsel trainers and staff to improve training content and delivery.
  12. Perform inspections to detect hazards and recommend corrective measures; ensure implementation and verification.
  13. Manage Hazardous Material, Emergency Response, and Evacuation Programs.
  14. Observe Fleet Safety Program requirements when operating work vehicles.
  15. Supervise staff in accordance with policies and laws, including hiring, training, performance appraisal, and discipline.
  16. Support continuous improvement aligned with Quality Management and ISO 14001 standards.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis on Safety preferred.
  • Active OSHA 30-hour Certificate preferred.
  • First Responder Certificate preferred.
Skills
  • Proven ability to develop and assess training effectiveness.
  • Ability to interpret documents and write reports and correspondence.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills; data-driven mindset.
  • Experience with KPI tracking preferred.
Travel Requirements
  • Domestic travel 0%-25%.
