Job Description Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. Nuclear Services EHS Leader to support the EHS program for GE Hitachi’s nuclear services product line. The nuclear services product line includes an outage services field team, a training facility in San Jose, CA, an electrical breaker repair facility in Philadelphia, PA, and our headquarters in Wilmington, NC. The outage services team provides outage services mainly in North America, with occasional work in the EU and Asia. Nuclear services outage work involves reactor disassembly/reassembly, refueling operations, in-service inspections (ISI), in-vessel visual inspections (IVVI), under vessel maintenance, fuel inspections, plant modifications, and other services.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive safety support to the nuclear services organization.
- Conduct routine field safety assessments at project sites to promote a strong safety culture and a safety conscience work environment (SCWE).
- Ensure compliance with all company, local, state, and federal requirements throughout the Services organization.
- Lead or assist in incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with clients through effective communication and interaction, aligning safety practices with client expectations.
- Participate in customer safety summits.
- Participate in project readiness meetings and post-outage reviews.
- Ensure the project site’s overall EHS Plan(s) meet GE Vernova’s standards, regulatory requirements, and other requirements, including but not limited to the Occupational Safety & Health Act, US EPA, and 10 CRF 20 (ALARA).
- Ensure effective implementation of GE Vernova’s EHS management system, including policy, training, risk assessment, inspection, auditing, event management, and analysis, in line with GE Vernova standards and procedures.
- Utilize Gensuite, GE Vernova’s EHS software suite, to document EHS activities such as incidents, compliance tasks, employee hours, risk assessments, and chemical management processes.
- Partner with the services continuous improvement leader to develop outage kickoff presentations and project manager briefs.
- Use services observation data to track, trend, and identify EHS focus areas for continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering Environmental, or a related technical discipline from an accredited university or college.
- Minimum 8 years of manufacturing and/or industrial safety experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with OSHA and other governmental organizations.
Eligibility Requirements
- Preferred work location is Wilmington, NC; highly qualified remote (US-based) candidates will also be considered.
- Willingness to travel up to 80% domestically and internationally.
- Ability to work on holidays, weekends, and overtime as required.
- Ability to wear protective clothing, walk stairs, and work in radiation-controlled areas.
- Must pass Fitness for Duty and site security requirements for unescorted access to nuclear sites.
- Successful completion of background checks and drug screening.
- Current NRC clearance or ability to obtain it.
- Access to U.S. export-controlled information, with final approval contingent on U.S. Government authorization.
Desired Characteristics
- At least 5 years of EHS experience in nuclear field services.
- Knowledge of nuclear plant outages and maintenance activities.
- Experience in nuclear or Navy Nuclear Power Plants, EHS or Radiation Protection/ALARA.
- Certifications such as CSP, ASP, or other safety certifications.
- Registered Radiation Protection Technologist.
- Proven project management skills, strong computer skills, and knowledge of OSHA, NRC regulations, and INPO standards.
- Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, and team-building skills.
The base pay range is $113,000 to $145,000, with potential bonuses and geographic differentials. Benefits include health coverage, retirement plans, tuition assistance, and more. The position closes on May 16th, and relocation assistance is provided.
