Job summary

MARION COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT in Ocala, FL is seeking an Environmental Specialist I. The role inspects private wells, validates well construction data in WMIS, collects water samples, and supports permit processing and record-keeping.

The position requires outdoor work, lifting up to 30 lbs, and knowledge of Florida code. The incumbent will conduct routine inspections of LUWS/LUPS wells, document findings, and assist in reports to water management districts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Willing to work outside in the elements.
• Lift a minimum of 30 lbs.
• BS in physical science preferred.
• Experience with Environmental Health Database and water testing preferred.
• Experience in a regulatory setting is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Inspect private wells after construction to verify information in WMIS and related permits.
• Take water samples and submit to state approved labs.
• Process well permit applications and issue permits.
• Maintain hardcopy and digital well records for WMIS and EHD.
• Assist in data reporting to SWFWMD and SJRWMD.
• Perform front desk duties when needed and support environmental health programs.
