Job summary

The Florida Department of Health seeks an Environmental Specialist I to support the Drinking Water/Engineering Section. Based in the Daytona Beach area, you will conduct well and irrigation inspections, collect water samples, and enforce regulations for limited-use water systems.

You will also assist with public health protections and emergency response activities. Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in a physical or natural science or public health, a valid driver’s license, and

Qualifications

Must be willing to physically come in the office to perform the duties & responsibilities of the positions.
Must have current authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
Must have a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the physical or natural sciences or public health.
Must have a valid Driver’s License and be willing to drive your personal vehicle for field inspections.

Responsibilities

Inspect wells and irrigation systems and review applications for completeness and accuracy.
Collect water samples and perform field tests; complete inspection reports within timeframes.
Enforce regulations for limited-use public water systems and document findings in the program.
Conduct well surveys, water sampling, site monitoring and public information dissemination.
Respond to emergencies and assist in disaster preparedness and response efforts.
